Kapula is located in a small community in the southern most region of South Africa. Started by Ilse Appelgryn in 1993, this family run business began to help employ the local women of the community. Now they hire men and women alike, train them to be the crafters of these beautiful products and provide them with sustainable employment to help them to take care of themselves and their families.
We visited the Kapula factory on several occasions in the past and saw for ourselves that fair trade practices were in place. We were always greeted with smiling faces while these artisans worked away making and painting. However, now an official member, the WFTO gives them a global confirmation.
AND, Kapula is not only just about these amazing colorful collections of candles, but also a line of hand made and hand painted ceramics! Fun, bright, and unique, these pieces are all dishwasher and microwave safe. Great for a house warming gift, hostess gifts, or a treat for your own table! kapula ceramics
