Once a ceramics high school art teacher from the eastern part of South Africa, Toni Burton started Zizamele Ceramics in 2008 with a mission to help women who showed artistic talents. She wanted to teach them ways to convert their talent into a better way of life, thereby empowering them to take care of themselves and their families.

Toni finds her artisans in a township near Kommetjie on the Cape Peninsula, south of Cape Town. She trains them in her nearby workshop and sells their products in local craft markets. Each ceramic piece is individually made and painted with no pattern allowing each artist to express themselves through their own designs and colors on these unique gifts.

While there are many different designs in the Zizamele collection, the open arms of the African ladies on the ‘friendship bowl’ and ‘friendship tea light candle holder’ tell the story of providing each other strength by extending the hand of friendship.

Perfect gifts for friends or loved ones or a beautiful addition to your own home decor.
